Machida retains UFC title LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lyoto Machida retained his light heavyweight title with a narrow unanimous decision over Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 104 on Saturday night. Machida (16-0) lost a round for the first time in his UFC career during a tight, technical fight with Rua (18-4), but all three judges rewarded the champion with 48-47 advantages on their scorecards. UFC 104: Rua vs. Machida Two of Brazil’s most decorated Mixed Martial Arts warriors (MMA) -- Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Rua -- will face off for the Light Heavyweight Championship Saturday night, Oct 24, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The card as a whole is not the wealthiest, but is one of the biggest main events of the year. The winner of the co-main event will be a third man in line for a shot at facing Brock Lesnar for the heavyweight title. Louisiana fighters defeat Team Florida With over 3,000 spectators in attendance on Friday, Oct. 9 at the Baton Rouge River Center, USAMMA and Beat2sleeP made it apparent that they are officially the largest competitors in the mixed martial arts (MMA) business in south Louisiana. The excitement was in the air as MMA fans from the Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes waited to see the most anticipated event of the year.
