LSU show focuses on 'American Dream'

The LSU School of Art’s eighth annual Summer Invitational Art Exhibition opens with a reception 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 11, in the Alfred C. Glassell Jr. Exhibition Gallery in the Shaw Center of the Arts, 100 Lafayette St. The show will run through Aug. 2.

The theme for this year’s exhibition is American Dream.

More than 60 artists are featured in the show, including LSU faculty, alumni and local artists. They have been asked to create art in all media based on the theme of American Dream.

The exhibit and reception are free.

Solo series set
The Louisiana Sinfonietta Solo Series will present a concert of varied music featuring Sinfonietta cellist Susannah Montandon and pianist Louis Wendt at 4 p.m. Friday, July 10, at St. James Place, 333 Lee Drive.

The concert is free.

Call for entries
Deadline for entries to the Louisiana Art and Artists’ Guild’s 40th annual River Road Show is Sept. 14.

The show will run December through January at the Louisiana State Archives, 3851 Essen Lane. This is a national competition with prizes of $4,000. All United States artists age 18 and older are invited to submit their art to the juried and judged show.

Don Andrews, author and workshop instructor, is the judge. Andrews will, in addition, conduct a three-day workshop, “Interpreting the Landscape” Dec. 3-5 at the Studio in the Park, 2490 Silverest Ave.

Acting workshop set
Registration continues for Baton Rouge Little Theater’s High School Acting Workshop for students in the ninth through 12th grades, set Monday through Friday, July 6-10. The registration free is $119.

The workshop will take place at the theater, 7155 Florida Blvd.
