Louisiana bids to host Congrès Mondial in 2014

Louisiane-Acadie, a relatively new organization based in the Acadiana area, has applied to be host for Congrès Mondial 2014 (2014 World Acadian Congress). Every five years, Acadians from throughout the world gather in different locations in North America. This year’s event is in New Brunswick, Canada, in August.
In support of Louisiana’s bid for the 2014 event, Fete de Famille will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Monday, June 22, at Longfellow Evangeline State Historic Site in St. Martinville.
Visitors can take in a Cajun jam session, simulated family reunion, cooking demonstrations, tastings, lectures, a performance by Renaissance Cadienne and more.
The event is free.
Vitale at LTPA
Professional speaker and author Paul Vitale will address the Louisiana Travel Promotion Association annual membership meeting/luncheon at Bistro on the Bayou in Alexandria, Friday, June 26.
Vitale is author of the books Are You Puzzled by the Puzzle of Life? and Pass It On. His talks emphasize the importance of a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and other concepts. Vitale will also participate in the LTPA Educates seminar from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The seminar is free with annual meeting registration. The topic is “Sell with Confidence.”

Plaquemine for the Fourth
Plaquemine will mark the Fourth of July with a celebration at the Bayou Plaquemine Water Front Park on La. 1 downtown.
Festivities get under way at 3 p.m. with an opening ceremony and veterans’ boat parade. Canoe and pirogue races start at 4 p.m. and dancing on the boardwalk with Kane Glaze begins at 6 p.m. The fireworks display blasts off at 9 p.m.
The Plaquemine Locks and Iberville Museum will be open for tours, along with the Plaquemine Depot Market.
The St. John’s Mothers’ Club is organizing the Amazing Race of 2009 for adult teams. The race features challenges and a scavenger hunt in the Main Street area. For more information on the race, call Rhonda Harrell at (225) 687-3056 or go to http://www.stjohnschool.org.
