It’s been said that a cover/original band’s life expectancy is between two to five years, and in some cases, if they’re lucky, maybe 10. This has not been the case with The Andy Smith Band from New Iberia, Louisiana. This band has been around for 20 years. During this time, the Andy Smith Band has shared the stage with famous artists such as Aaron Neville, BB King, Better Than Ezra, Starship, Wet Willie, Leon Russell, Sammy Kershaw, Lonnie Mack, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead.

The Andy Smith Band has played on stages in various parts of the United States as well as in El Salvador and the Virgin Islands. The band performs over 230 dates a year at weddings, private parties, nightclubs, and festivals. A few of these events include The National Shrimp Festival and Bayfest Music Festival in Alabama, The Balloon Festival in Natchez, Mississippi, The BB King Blues Festival in Indianola, Mississippi, The Louisiana Sugarcane Festival, The International Rice Festival, The Louisiana Hot Sauce Festival, The Ron Guidry Golf Tournament, The Louisiana Golf Tournament, The Cypress Bayou Casino’s Employee of the Year Party and their New Year’s Eve Party.
Who are they like? When doing cover material, the Andy Smith Band tries to keep close to the artist's vision. With that said, they also try to inject a little bit of their personality at the same time. With their original music, such as in their first CD, you can hear a little bit of Sting, Eric Clapton, Elton John, and Van Morrison. The second CD is a bit more pop-oriented/radio friendly. The Andy Smith Band’s third CD lends itself more to classic rock and progressive rock, which is quite a departure from the first two.
