4 new artists will make market debut

The next Baton Rouge Arts Market will be 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 4, at 5th and Main streets.

Four new artists will make their debut at the market: Barbara Clark, Baton Rouge, handmade wool pillows with original designs; Skip Goldstein, Prairieville, kiln-fired glass; Ann Mulkern, Baton Rouge, hand-knit/felted handbags and accessories; Joan Murray, Gramercy, hand-crocheted jewelry with gemstones and found objects.

Other items available at the market include jewelry, pottery, metal sculpture, stained glass, handmade soaps, birdhouses, wind chimes, hand-knit garments and photography. There also will be free children’s art activities 9 a.m. to noon at the Kids Booth.

The Baton Rouge Arts Market takes place in conjunction with the weekly Red Stick Farmers Market and the Main Street Market.

Quilt challenge

The West Baton Rouge Museum, 845 Jefferson Ave., Port Allen, is challenging regional quilters to create quilts using select fabrics, designs, and techniques to commemorate the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial. The museum will be the site of a competitive exhibition Sept. 27-Nov. 20.

Entries will be juried to include 20 original quilts to be exhibited. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, third place and honorable mention.

Deadline for entries is Aug. 17, at the museum. The entry fee is $8. Checks are to be made to the West Baton Rouge Historical Association. Each entry must also include a color photograph.

Items needed for exhibit

The Iberville Museum, 57735 Main St., Plaquemine, wants to borrow items for its upcoming exhibit, Germans of Iberville, which opens Oct. 3. The exhibit is part of the museum’s continuing People of Iberville series.

As with previous exhibits in this series, the museum is asking residents to lend family photos and historical items.
