Arts Council plans party in D.S. July 4

The Arts Council of Livingston Parish has several events planned for its Independence Day celebration Friday, July 4.
The Livingston Parish Community Concert Band will perform its annual concert on “Honor America Day” 6-8 p.m. at Train Station Park at North Range and Railroad avenues in the Antique District of Denham Springs. The concert will feature patriotic music by the community concert band and Robert Reynolds Jazz Group, along with a performance by the Odyssey Academy Dancers.
Lineup for the Classic Car Show and Children’s Parade on Railroad Avenue near the Train Station stage begins at 5:30 p.m.

The Children’s Parade is for children ages 4-9. Children should bring their patriotically decorated wagons, bicycles or tricycles, and march to the music of the band. Prizes will be awarded in each category, plus to the best patriotically dressed. This year’s event also features the city’s fire engine truck and the District 5 hook and ladder truck, face painting and other activities for the kids and free food.
Veterans and active duty military personnel are urged to attend Honor America Day as special guests at the annual July 4 concert.
All military personnel will be honored at the event and are asked to register at the sign-in tent.

Confetti and Fireworks
The LSU Museum of Art’s fundraiser, Confetti and Fireworks, will be 6-10 p.m. Friday, July 4, in the third floor Bert and Sue Turner Gallery and sixth floor Irene Pennington Rooftop Terrace of the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St.
Tickets are $125 for museum members and $150 for nonmembers, adults only. All proceeds support LSU Museum of Art Educational Programs.

Jerry Finnegan’s Sister
LSU students and Renegade Shakespeare Company members Amanda Sager and Jake Loup will stage Jack Neary’s Jerry Finnegan’s Sister at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, July 10-13, at the Bienville Street Studios, 4950 Government St. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Neary’s light-hearted romantic comedy, directed by Renegade member Ann E. Harris, takes the audience through a series of fast-moving, funny scenes. Loup and Sager play Brian and Beth from ages 7 and 6 through their adolescent and teen years to their early 20s.
