Exhibits by artists Cynthia Knapp and Regina Loch-Elvert will open Monday, May 4, at Ann Connelly Fine Art, 711 Jefferson Highway Suite 3A.

There will be an opening reception 6-9 p.m. Friday, May 9, in conjunction with Mid City Merchants’ Hot Art Cool Nights. The exhibit will continue to May 28.

Knapp’s exhibit, By the Same Hand, features figurative and abstract works on paper and canvas. Her current work develops dialectically. Each new series of drawings, paintings and sculpture revisits and transcends the formal and imagistic premises of her earlier work.

Loch-Elvert’s exhibit, Magenta, features oil paintings on canvas. In 2000, she was selected to do a commissioned art work for the University of Oregon, as well as having sold numerous pieces of art work through Washington State’s Art Commission.
Over the following seven years she painted in a rented studio on a daily basis and had several gallery exhibitions in Eugene and around the state. She is an adjunct teacher at LSU and also teaches children at the Brighton School in Baton Rouge.

At Glassell Gallery
Master of fine arts thesis exhibitions for Brian Dieterle and Alejandro Arauz will be exhibited Tuesday, May 6, through Sunday, May 18, at the Alfred C. Glassell Jr. Exhibition Gallery in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St. There will be a reception 7-9 p.m. Saturday, May 10.

Reservation for Two: Brian Dieterle comments on the tradition of utilitarian pottery. Dieterle offers a contemporary view of dinnerware reinventing itself for an ever-changing society. Focusing on the significance of personal experience, this body of work elevates the individual’s interaction with these forms by transforming the way in which we understand surface, space, and our perception of utility.

Arauz’s exhibit is titled Alejandro Arauz: Creatures Del Monte: Recent Works.

The exhibits are free. For more information, call (225) 389-7180.
