Music is highlight of ‘Brand New Day’ celebration
A day packed with music and celebration, in honor of National Alcohol and Addiction Recovery Day, will take place Saturday, Sept. 26, on the Louisiana State Museum grounds, 600 N. Fourth Street in downtown Baton Rouge.
The celebration, “A Brand New Day,” includes a full day of entertainment headlined by the band Jefferson Starship. The day will end with a benefit concert at the Baton Rouge River Center that night.
The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and others have joined to create the day-long event that starts at the museum at 9:30 a.m. with free live music, food, screenings, speakers and children’s activities.
Bands performing during the day on an outdoor stage near the museum include Jefferson Starship, Tab Benoit, Little Queenie, Soul Rebels, Don Dokken, Cyril Neville, Anders Osborne, Big Chief “Monk” Boudreaux, Jumpin’ Johnny Sansone, Brian Stoltz, Zebra’s Randy Jackson, The Pfister Sisters and Maggie Brown.
The evening benefit concert will take place at the Baton Rouge River Center featuring Richie Havens and special guest Cyrille Neville, Big Brother and the Holding Company with special guest Lil’ Queenie and then Jefferson Starship. Funds raised will assist Odyssey House Louisiana, O’Brien House, Cenikor Foundation, Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse of Northwest Louisiana and CENLA.
