La. indie filmmaking panel in N.O.
Corsair Media Productions will present a Louisiana indie filmmaking screening/panel on Saturday, July 18, at the Big Top Three Ring Circus, located at 1638 Clio Street in New Orleans.
Featured films include "The Last Lullaby" by Shreveport director Jeffrey Goodman and "Black Rock" by San Francisco/New Orleans director Kevin Epps.
"The Last Lullaby" starts at 7 p.m. and stars Tom Sizemore. This film is a redemption tale about a hitman trying to cope with the slow pace of retirement.
In addition to being a director, Goodman raised all money for his project by selling the film in $50,000 units to private investors in his hometown of Shreveport.
"Black Rock," which starts at 9 p.m., chronicles the lives of African-American inmates who lived in the Alcatraz island jail from 1934-1963. In this film, Epps brings to light a largely forgotten sliver of history and imbues it with both indignation and sadness.
The festivities will kick off with a “Meet the Filmmaker” panel from 5:30-7 p.m. The panel will discuss the pitfalls of both raising money and finding distribution for independent films.
Speakers include Goodman; Epps; Bruce Leininger, a writer whose book “Soul Survivor” was recently ranked No. 11 on the New York Times Best Seller list for hard-cover non-fiction; and Charlie Brown, a New Orleans moviemaker whose “Angels Die Slowly” will be released next year.
Admission is $10.
