The LSU Student Union Art Gallery has scheduled several events in the fall semester.
The semester begins with the touring exhibition Thirty Years of Rock and Roll: Photographs by Larry Hulst Wednesday, Sept. 10. The show will run through Sunday, Oct. 12.
Take a trip through the decades of rock and roll with this exhibit of concert photographs taken between 1969 and 1999. Included are early rockers like Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Beatles, Rolling Stones; folk musicians such as Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan; and guitar icons Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. This exhibit is circulated by Smith and Kramer Fine Art Services.
Next, Anonymously Yours: A Post Secret Project will run Oct. 24-Dec. 5. The PostSecret.com project began as an installation for Artomatic 2004 in Washington, D.C., where people were invited to anonymously send Frank Warren their secrets on one side of a homemade postcard. Entries included admissions of criminal misconduct, embarrassing habits, and confessions of sexual deviance. LSU students, faculty and staff and community members are invited to submit their own secrets on postcards by Friday, Oct. 10. The exhibit will include a reception beginning at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24.
Also, the gallery will sponsor three print and poster sales in the fall, the first featuring Beyond the Wall, 1-5 p.m. today, Aug. 24, and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 25-29. The second sale, featuring Global Prints, will be 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 8-12. The third sale, featuring Prolific Art Galleries, will be 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 29-Oct. 3. The latter two print and poster sales will be held in the Free Speech Plaza in front of the union, and the rain location will be the International Room, room 305, of the LSU Student Union. All posters and prints are priced between $3 and $27.
A visitor’s parking lot is located on the southwest corner of the Union between South Campus and Tower drives 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday–Friday. Parking is free on the weekends. A free visitor’s pass to park on campus during weekdays may be obtained 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday at the LSU Visitor Center on the corner of Highland Road and Dalrymple Drive.
All exhibits and programs are free. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. In addition, the gallery will have special Saturday hours of 1-5 p.m. before the LSU home football games.

BR Gallery’s new show
Baton Rouge Gallery, 1442 City Park Ave., will be showcasing four distinctly different Louisiana artists beginning Thursday, Aug. 28. The show will run through Sept. 25 with a reception 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3.
Featured artists are Jenny Authement, Michael w. Howes, Margaret Humphris and Kathryn Hunter.
Authement’s exhibition, Water Lily Ark, examines the symbolism of the water lily. According to Authement, the roots of the water lily symbolize the ever-changing journey of the human spirit. A part of the lotus family, the regional water lily represents its cultural “East-meets-West” connection.
Howes’ exhibition is titled Irds and Assorted Associates. The pieces included in Howes’ exhibition display his continued exploration of the forms and fauna of south Louisiana’s Lake Boeuf area. The coastal wetlands of the area are endangered.
Humphris’ exhibition, The Mystery of Magdalene, focuses on the figure that, as she puts it, has been “… misrepresented and maligned for centuries.” In this exhibition, Humphris focuses on the Biblical persona who was relieved of her sinful reputation by official Church decree in 1969. If no longer the repentant prostitute, then who is Mary Magdalene? According to Humphris, depending on which Gospels are examined, Magdalene was a visionary and a teacher or a “companion” of Jesus who was the first personal witness to the resurrected Christ. Now, Humphris suggests that Magdalene’s recent resurfacing as a figure of interest is no accident.
