STEVEN WARD

Steven Ward covers education and general assignment news in The Advocate's River parishes bureau. Ward, a U.S. Navy veteran who served as a radioman aboard an aircraft carrier in the Gulf War, graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1995 with B.A. in liberal arts. He has worked as a general assignment reporter at The News Banner in Covington, was cops and courts reporter at the Lake City Reporter in North Florida and a cops and courts reporter at The Courier in Houma before coming to The Advocate in 2000. Ward also has had freelance music articles published in Harp, Classic Rock, Las Vegas Weekly, The Boston Phoenix, Offbeat and Louisiana Life. He is currently working on a true crime book for Penguin Books about members of a devil-worshipping cult who allegedly sexually abused children and animals inside a Ponchatoula church. Born in Lafayette and raised in New Orleans, Ward lives in Baton Rouge with his wife Nisey and their daughter Audrey.
