You’ve no doubt heard that the SEC fined Florida football coach Urban Meyer $30,000 for suggesting that the refs missed the late hit on his quarterback Tim Tebow in a recent game.
Colleague Karen Martin says she’s been hearing talk around town about a fund drive to raise $30,000 to present to Les Miles so he can point out the blown call on the Patrick Peterson interception in the Alabama game.
Money well spent, if you ask me …
Misplaced curse
I recently reported that LSU fan Leslie Tassin, leading a bus trip to Canada, stopped at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa to put a voodoo curse on the Alabama football team.
Leslie says that curse worked, but “the mistake that I made is that I did not put it on the SEC officials working the game.”
Missing persons
Finally, it’s happened.
After 50 years, two people in Louisiana are willing to speak up and say they weren’t in Tiger Stadium on Halloween night, 1959, when Billy Cannon made “The Run” against Ole Miss.
Mercedes Doré, of Plaquemine, says, “After 50 years I have decided to publicly admit that I did not witness Billy Cannon’s run.
“I was not allowed to go because my aunt and uncle from Shreveport came for the game and got the tickets my sister and I would have used.
“I have decided to form a club for the few people in Louisiana over 50 who are willing to admit that they did not attend the game.
“No dues, and you will get to be in a very exclusive club!”
