It’s called eating high on the hog

Dear Smiley: Reading Fern Grush’s game-day menus centered on LSU’s opponents’ mascots reminds me of about 10 years ago.

My wife and my daughter (about 9) and I had gone to an LSU-Arkansas game in Baton Rouge the Friday after Thanksgiving.

LSU won a close game, and we set out for the Mall of Louisiana to begin some early Christmas shopping after the game.

When the mall closed around 9 p.m., we went to a nearby Chili’s for dinner.

When my daughter looked over the menu, she looked up at me and said, “Daddy, since LSU beat the Arkansas piggies, don’t you think we should celebrate by eating some pig ribs?”

She was right; we did, and the ribs tasted especially delicious that night, partly due to the celebration aspect.

We have tried to “raise her right” from an early age!

What accent?
Dear Smiley:
The other day I walked into Buck’s Saloon here, and when the waitress came for my order, I said, “I’d like a Tecate beer, please.”

She said, “You’re from Louisiana, aren’t you?”

I asked, “Why — do all people from Louisiana drink Tecate?”

She said, “No — but they all have Cajun accents.”

She was from Georgia.
