Dear Smiley: Graduation time reminded the family of when our youngest son, Brian, graduated from LSU in 2001.
That year LSU was demoted from the No. 1 party school to No. 2.
I wrote you saying I knew why that happened — my son and his roommate had just graduated.
I asked you not to use my name because I did not want to embarrass him.
You can imagine my surprise when on the day it appeared in your column Brian called me and asked if I had put that in the paper.
Not only was I stunned that he suspected I had done that, but also amazed about the facts that he was reading The Advocate and your column. I guess LSU did its job.

Sweet home Louisiana
Dear Smiley: Lately I’ve noticed increasing numbers of Canada geese lounging around the lakes in my neighborhood.
These geese have shown no desire to migrate north. They seem here to stay, and have even interbred with the locals to produce mottled gray and white offspring.
I’ve dubbed these “Acadian Geese.”
I was wondering if Louisiana might be interested in designating a new state bird?

Where the boys were
Dear Smiley: Having worked at Dalton’s for six years, I was one of those girls who had to walk past the “Hubba Hubba” boys every day.
I was the cashier who did the banking for Dalton’s each day. I would go out the door near Florida Street so I could walk past the boys. On Friday and Saturday, they were in full force.
Wow, it was so much fun!
