Rose Rolfsen was excited to read in The Advocate that it is illegal “to place those ugly plastic signs in the medians and on corners.
“There is a hefty fine associated with this.

Yeah, from what I’ve observed driving to and from work, you could collect a buck for each one and be a millionaire in no time. …
Mistaken identity
Ed Cullen says he knew it was time for the College World Series to be over when he looked at a headline in The Advocate and thought it said “Omaha” instead of “Obama.”
A well-done roastee
On a personal note, I’d like to thank the folks who put together a roast at The Pastime to mark the 30th anniversary of this column.
Tom Sylvest Jr. headed a hard-working committee — Robby Zeringue, Mike Humble, Dale J. Landry and Rob Payer. (The bar at Phil Brady’s must have looked strangely empty the afternoon of the roast.)
I’m grateful to those who showed up, even those who roasted me. They were surprisingly easy on me — except for wife Lady Katherine and daughter Tammy.
No one who knows that much about you should ever be allowed to roast you.
Oh well, at least they didn’t invite ex-wives. …
Mexican fried
Lots of folks are nostalgic about Pancho’s, the long-gone buffet restaurant.
John Hall says when she and her brother and sister were growing up in El Paso, Texas, they didn’t like Mexican food. (El Paso is not a good place to be if you don’t like Mexican food.)
But the Pancho’s there had all-you-can-eat fried chicken:
