Della Neely-Stout was driving home to watch the Tigers play Texas in the College World Series when she saw a group of guys set up to watch the game in style:
“They had brought a huge flat-screen TV out on the front porch of this tiny house.
“In the front yard they had lined the bed of a pickup truck with plastic sheeting and filled it with water.
“They were all sitting in the water drinking, and someone was barbecuing next to the truck.”
Sounds to me like the next best thing to being in Omaha. …
Nostalgia Corner
Miriam Juban says, “The recent Lee High Class of ’64 reunion led us down memory lane.
“We talked about Rock’s Drive-In and the Smokehouse on Nicholson Drive. Where are the recipes for those burgers? They were great!”
(Are we about to see a new item on Juban’s menu to join Hallelujah Crabs?)
The paper chase
Jeanne Babin, who works in the burglary section of the Baton Rouge Police Department, says one morning “a gentleman from Turner Industries came to our office.
“He had seen a police officer out watching for speeders. The officer received a call and left in a hurry, leaving his ticket book and other papers on the trunk of his unit.
“They fell off, and this gentleman retrieved them and brought them here.
“The officer is so grateful to this gentleman for returning his papers.
“We have wonderful officers here. This incident shows that there are some wonderful people out there on the roads.”
