Bill Noonan, the leader of the Bamboozers social club, tells of his Alfred Hitchcock moment in Canada:
“Earlier this month the Bamboozers made their usual trip to Banff, Alberta, to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Canadian Rockies.
“While there, my partial upper dental plate broke in two pieces.
“My wife, Adele, helped me find Super Glue and we carefully glued the two pieces together.
“We left the plate on our patio to dry while we went upstairs to our group’s ‘party room.’
“In an hour we went back to our room and headed toward the patio — just as a large crow swooped down, got the plate in its beak and flew away to its nest.
“We are told that these big crows in Banff will grab anything that shines!
“On our return to Baton Rouge, my dentist made a new impression, and I will have a replacement within a week.
“I try not to smile, but I can’t stop laughing. I’m not crowing about this story!”
Picky eater
Clayton Cox, of Lafayette, says, “Sunday’s feature on priceless sayings by dads reminded me of my late grandfather.
“Out of his many colorful sayings, my favorite was his standard answer to ‘What do you want for dinner?’
“His reply: ‘The brains of a peacock and the breasts of six virgin canaries.’ ”
