You can’t get away from Tigers

Dear Smiley: After living in Baton Rouge for the past 31 years, we moved just north of San Diego in late May to be closer to our 8-year-old granddaughter, Lauren, and her parents — our daughter and son-in-law.

The first Sunday after we arrived in California, we went to Mass at the nearby church.

Lauren wore her LSU shirt, and when she turned around to give the sign of peace to the people behind us, the girl there told us she was a sophomore at LSU!

After Mass ended, we talked with her and her parents, the Miclettes, and found that she grew up in Baton Rouge, her mom was raised in New Orleans and her dad was from Baton Rouge.

The parents, like us, are both LSU graduates. They’ve been living here for about 10 years.

Can you believe that in a church that seats over 1,500 people we would sit directly in front of a family of LSU Tigers from Baton Rouge/New Orleans?

And to make the story even more unbelievable, the daughter who attends LSU is named Lauren, her mom is Susan and her dad is Mike (our son’s name is Michael).

What a small and wonderful world.

Geaux Tigers!

Some apple!
Dear Smiley:
Yes, those Pancho’s chili rellenos bring back memories.

As freshmen at SMU, our dorm floor went to a Pancho’s buffet for Sunday dinner the first weekend away from home.

My experience with Mexican food was limited, growing up in New Orleans.

I went down that buffet line wanting to try everything, and when I saw this large fried orb with a stem, I thought it was a fried apple.
