After the Carencro Curmudgeon (Dan Burkhalter) complained about seeing, on a drive to Opelousas, motorists eating and driving at the same time, Vita Clement, of Opelousas, explained:

“It has been my observation that people here in Opelousas use a cell phone, eat and smoke while driving.”

But “they do have one foot free to use the gas pedal.”

Too busy to drive
On the subject of multi-tasking behind the wheel, Vernon Yielding observes:

“In the Thursday paper, there was an article about the Fiat Croma.

“It has a voice command system that will allow the driver to place a call, listen to incoming text messages, consult a phone book and listen to MP3s.

“They better come up with an autopilot system that will allow the driver to take advantage of these wonderful accessories and enjoy breakfast on the way to work.”

Texas Tiger
Stephanie McGraw Folse, of Katy, Texas, says son Michael has a very creative fourth-grade teacher at Roosevelt Alexander Elementary School.

The teacher, Mrs. Stigall, “figured out a way to challenge my son to make straight A’s.”

Knowing he was a big LSU fan, she told him that if he earned straight A’s, she would wear anything LSU that he brought for her before the school term ended.

Stephanie sent photos showing the teacher wearing what appears to be every piece of LSU gear ever made.

“She was a great sport! I don’t recall where she attended college, but she favored Texas A&M over LSU.”

Salad days
Lenora Colledge, of Breaux Bridge, says items on the care and feeding of college students remind her of her days at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (“Good old IUPUI”):
