Dear Smiley: Our daughter Lynn recently shared this story with us about our 2 1/2-year-old great-grandson, John Theriot.
Lynn’s husband Bill and John were in the bedroom one evening at bedtime.
John was stalling for time, as usual, so they were discussing our dog Max and their dog Hoss.
They were talking about Max being a big dog and Hoss being a little dog.
John still wasn’t satisfied, and wanted to know what kind of dogs they were.
Bill told him that Max is a German shepherd and Hoss is a Boston terrier.
Since John is a fast learner, he continued to repeat what he understood his Pops to say.
He will now tell anyone who asks that Hoss is a Boston Theriot!
Needless to say, from this day forward Hoss will always be a Boston Theriot.
Only in Louisiana!

Dear Smiley: On rising early through error:
When I was in my early teens (about 70 years ago) I would spend nights with my aunt, whose house was only about 100 yards from ours.
She was afraid to spend the nights alone with her small child. (My uncle worked on the boats.)
