Julaine Schexnayder, of New Iberia, says that in the 1960s and ’70s, Irvin “Coach” Moceri “had the dubious task of molding a bunch of small town boys into Jeanerette High School football players and young men. My husband, Isby, was one of them.”

She says Coach Moceri has a suggestion for LSU fans who want to surprise Coach Nick Saban when he brings his lads from Alabama into Tiger Stadium Nov. 8:

“Coach Moceri says Tiger fans should cheer loudly. And Coach Saban should be told that it is to thank him for setting into motion a chain of events that has led to our having Les Miles as our winning head coach!”

Which reminds me
The notion of cheering Nick Saban reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Brother Dave Gardner:

“Love your enemies — you’ll drive ’em crazy!”

Difference of opinion
Hey, folks, I didn’t expect you to nominate songs I like in our Worst Song contest:

For instance, Liz Wright says, “I absolutely loathe ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ by the Tokens.

“My husband, on the other hand, likes the song. If he makes me listen to it, I pay him back by loudly joining in whenever the ‘wimowehing’ chorus starts in.”

And Lenora Colledge, of Breaux Bridge, says, “I can’t stand ‘Hotel California’ by the Eagles. It gives me the creeps every time I hear it.”

Wall Street anthem
Judge Bob Downing mentions another song I like, but not in connection with the Worst Song Contest:

“Looking at my stock portfolio this morning reminded me of the Tom Petty song, ‘Free Falling.’ ”

Return of the rockers
Speaking of music, Dick Holler says the 2008 Original Rockers Reunion from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Eagles Club on Beaumont brings together some of Baton Rouge’s favorite musicians:

“Join members of The Rockets, Dots, Bah Humbugs, Boogie Kings, Playboys, Kings of Swing, Greek Fountain, Mersey Sounds, Hearts, Spades, etc.
