OK, so 4 p.m. isn’t exactly midday. Still, it’s so warm at that time here in August that LSU officials are advising fans at the Appalachian State game how to keep from dying in the heat.
Their advice: start drinking water and other hydrating beverages a couple of days before the game.
LSU is also offering “misting stations” and hand-held fans, free sunscreen, etc.
All this because ESPN officials, based in Connecticut, for crying out loud, have decided on a 4 p.m. game.
And, as Randy Newman tells us, it’s money that matters. …
I’m old enough to recall LSU games played on chilly fall nights when the ladies wore fur coats not just because they were stylish, but because they needed them to stay warm.
But no more. …
My daughter Tammy tells it like it is: “I go to the beach every summer, but I got the worst sunburn of my life at an LSU football game!”

Ben Clyde “T-Clyde” Bennett says folks in Avoyelles Parish have long had the Cajun custom of using “T” (as in “T-Boy”) “to designate a junior or small person.
“We have had sheriffs called ‘T-Jack’ (Jeansonne), ‘T-Potch’ (Didier) and ‘T-Bill’ (Belt). And I see LSU has a football player named ‘T-Bob’ (Hebert).”
T-Clyde says he’s learned of another Cajun, a billionaire Texas oilman whose TV ads are promoting the use of wind as an energy source.
