Now we blabbermouths at The Advocate have gone and done it!
Mary Grace Simpson says Terry Robinson “did a wonderful story about my Sunday School teacher Walt Joiner, celebrating 50 years of teaching at Broadmoor United Methodist Church.”
However, she says, “Terry quoted me, listing my name and age.”
Due to this revelation, “at my church’s Administrative Council meeting the assembled church leaders ‘suggested’ that I would not qualify to attend a special gathering being planned for young adults!’”
Sounds unfair to me — after all, she’s only 80!
An Oslo reunion
When Bette Sobel Vidrine of Lafayette, a harpist who studied at LSU, was invited to take part in a concert tour of Norway, she thought of her high school days:
“I graduated from Baton Rouge High in 1960. We had an exchange student from Norway our senior year, Morten Vatn.
“I found Morten on the Internet and wrote a ‘real’ letter to him.
“He e-mailed me back. He remembered me, and that we sat next to each other in Mrs. Michael’s extremely interesting English class.
“He invited me to his home for dinner when I got to Oslo.
“His wife, daughter, granddaughter, sister and brother-in-law were there.
“Morten’s wife fixed a fabulous meal. They were all excited because I was the first classmate that had ever visited them in Oslo.
“He is a gastroenterologist now. His daughter is a folk musician on the Nordic pipes (a small bagpipe) and she and I played some harp and pipes duets.
“It was loads of fun. I think I convinced him to come to our 50th class reunion in 2010.”
