Jackie Upton asks, “Is it just me, or does anybody else see it?

“Every time television shows a view of the Chinese Birds’ Nest stadium built for the Olympics I don’t see a nest. To me it is a perfect representation of a bureaucracy!

“The stadium is there, presumably, under all those layers of what seem to be bindings and lashings, holding the structure tight, making sure it doesn’t get out of control.

“To me it symbolizes the whole process of trying to deal with any bureaucracy on any level.

“It should be named The Frustration Bowl.”

A heavenly cook
“Local charities lost a good friend this week when C.J. Albarado passed away at his home,” says “T.V.” Vallet:

“C.J. cooked for thousands of people in need over the years without a moment’s hesitation. He not only would cook, but organized the benefits for the needy as well.

“It is a safe bet that there’s a pot of jambalaya and white beans simmering just inside the Pearly Gates, right next to the bottle of Miller Lite.”

Nostalgia Corner
Jeanette Lalonde Brown lists “places we used to go” when she and Baton Rouge were younger:

“The Tonga Lounge in Bon Marché. (Remember the ‘Blue Flame Cuba Libre’?)

“Hopper’s for great ham po-boys.

“The drive-ins: Kip’s next to the Hopper’s on Airline and Rock’s on Nicholson (very dark!).

“The drive-in theaters on Airline and Florida.
