Doug Treadway waxes poetic about a home remedy for summertime discomfort:

Real aliens?

Mystery man
District Attorney Tony Falterman, of Napoleonville, says this happened at the investiture ceremony for Jane Triche-Milazzo in the Assumption Parish courthouse.
Jane, the daughter of long-time legislator Risley “Pappy” Triche, is the first elected female district court judge in the 23rd Judicial District (Assumption, Ascension and St. James parishes).
(A quick aside: She is the first elected district court judge in the 23rd, but not the first female judge in that area. Two names come to mind: Mathile Abramson, who was appointed on an interim basis to the judgeship Triche-Milazzo now holds, and Ascension Parish Court Judge Marilyn Lambert, who handles primarily misdemeanor, family and juvenile court issues.)
Says Tony of the ceremony: “While seated in the jury box, I noted a very, very old photograph (the only one in the courtroom) of a middle-aged man.
“In the past, when I was actively trying cases, I always told visitors to the court who inquired that the photo was President Grant’s grandson (some resemblance).
“I asked Pappy (the oldest practicing lawyer around) about the photo.
“He said, ‘We’ve been trying to figure out who that is for over 50 years!’ ”
Tony says he just hopes the guy wasn’t some criminal who was “hanged in one of the large oak trees at the courthouse!”
Quacking up
Dan Dickenson says that when he grew up in Tennessee, the question posed by a reader, “What’s the difference in a duck?” had this answer:
