Dear Smiley: In June I traveled to China with a group of students.
We were in Xian at a massive Buddhist temple and were told to be very quiet. The day was blistering hot, and I was wearing my new LSU T-shirt.
As we started toward the front gate, I heard this voice shout out, “Oh my Gawd!”
This man was rushing toward me bellowing, “Are you from Louisiana? Are you from Baton Rouge?”
When I told him yes, he replied in a heavy Cajun accent (music to my ears), “I was born and raised in Louisiana and graduated from LSU. I live in Houston. Go, Tigers!”
As everyone looked at us, he joyfully asked, “Are you an LSU football fan?”
When I replied yes, he said, “OK, then prove it. Who is the greatest LSU football player to come out of Texas?”
I immediately responded, “Alan Faneca.”
He shouted, “Yes, that’s right! Oh my Gawd. Come here, Myrtle (his wife). I have found one here in the middle of China!”

Dear Smiley: I need some political interpretation.
I heard a discussion that referred to “sin tryst” politics.
Is this a reference to the “black book” scandals that have recently come to light involving politicians and escort services?

A matter of priorities
Dear Smiley: The first day of LSU football ticket sales for grad students happened to fall on our son Chris’ wedding day (to beautiful Bonnie).
