The English language is a wonderful thing.

I love all the clever ways people use it.

For instance, Keith John Paul Horcasitas says Bob, the president of his subdivision organization, came up with a phrase that would no doubt please this column’s wordsmiths, such as Ralph Sims.

At a recent subdivision meeting, Keith says, “one minor, yet persistent, issue that we addressed involved pet dogs.

“Bob delicately noted the ‘pet pickup’ issue in our meeting’s minutes:

“’With the growing number of families that walk dogs in the neighborhood, there have been growing complaints of homeowners finding doggy landmines in their yards, so those of us who walk their pets need to make an effort to pick up after them.’

“Sounds like a doggone good idea!”

Easy rider
I’ve got to stop being such a smart-aleck.

After I said I’d take part in Bike to Work Day today if someone could show me how to pedal safely from Spanish Town to Bluebonnet, Chris took me up on it.

Chris, who makes a 24-mile round trip commute every day, offered to ride with me to and from work:

“I have ridden this route many times on my bike with no problems. It can be done in around 30 minutes. …

“Commuting by bicycle is very possible and not as dangerous as people think…

“I’ve found drivers to be 99.9 percent pleasant and .1 percent annoyed but not dangerous.”

"Have a nice day" sounds like a cordial salutation, but it is actually a personal statement of pending plans.
