Thieves get Christmas surprise

After a reader told of having a crutch stolen from her truck, I heard an example of “some people will steal anything” from Dudley Lehew:

“I know it’s true, because I was working in New York City when it happened.

“Sanitation workers went on strike one Christmas season. As the garbage began to pile up, some uptown Manhattan residents discovered that they could take their garbage, put it in a nicely wrapped package and leave it on the front steps of their building in a shopping bag as if they had mistakenly forgotten to bring it inside.

“Yep! It would get stolen!”

Dog-gone good example
Pat Crochet says, “It’s been my observation during my early morning walk that my dog and all the other canines we meet along the way observe the stop signs better than most Baton Rouge drivers. They stop, sniff and then continue on their way.”

Midnight serenade
Becky Richardson LeBlanc tells of leaving the Baton Rouge High Class of ’58 reunion at the Shaw Center with three friends — June Blush May, Johnnie Gay Tinsley Hunsucker and Carole Pedarre McDade:

“Driving home down Government Street at midnight, we stopped in front of Baton Rouge High, rolled down our windows and sang the alma mater.”

Becky says they weren’t too worried about getting busted for disturbing the peace, because they had Friends in High Places:

“Our classmates at the reunion included Deputy Sheriff Mary Margaret Lobianco, former Chief of Police Wayne Rogillio, former Congressman Henson Moore, former U.S. Attorney Stan Bardwell, and numerous attorneys.”

Southern exposure
The Southern comedian Brother Dave Gardner used to proclaim that the Earth was a Southern planet.

Now Matt Ackel of Berwick offers proof of the possible Southern origins of the participants in the Last Supper:

“Responding to your recent mention of the Last Supper:

“Being from the South — and I am talking south of U.S. 90 — we have always had Sunday dinner at high noon. Supper is the evening meal.
