It started 18 years ago when Mike Arnone, a Baton Rouge native living in New Jersey, got homesick.
Mike decided to hold a backyard crawfish boil for a few friends.
Today that boil has grown into the annual Crawfish Fest, a mini Jazz Fest.
It’ll be held May 30 through June 1 at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, N.J.
Performers include The Radiators, the Funky Meters, Tab Benoit, Allen Toussaint, Keith Frank & The Soileau Zydeco Band, Little Freddy King and more.
Tipitina’s Foundation benefit tickets are available.
In addition to music and 5 tons of boiled crawfish, Jazz Fest culinary heroes will be on hand. John Ed Laborde of Marksville serves crawfish bread and Biker Bob Guilbeau of Prejean’s Restaurant in Lafayette offers duck, pheasant and andouille gumbo. Other dishes range from raw oysters to alligator sausage.
There’ll be a full range of Louisiana crafts for sale.

Jim Wilcombe Jr. says the 8-ounce Coke bottles with LSU’s 2007 BCS championship logo on them remind him of when all Cokes came in glass bottles:
“They cost 5 cents, and you could get a penny for returning the bottle.
“They had the bottling city stamped on the bottom. It used to be fun checking how far away your bottle came.”
“Who needed video games with all this fun?”
