Algie Petrere says years ago when son Gary was 5, “We were traveling to visit my grandmother and he was keeping me entertained with endless chatter.
“He had a slight cold and the more he talked the fainter his voice became.
“He asked me what was happening. I explained about laryngitis and told him he should stop talking for a while or he might lose his voice.
“The next day, my aunt came to visit at my grandmother’s house.
“She was a nonstop talker; we were used to it, and I didn’t realize the children would pay any attention to it. Apparently, I was wrong.
“After about an hour, Gary went up to her and said, ‘Aunt Ellie, you’ve got to stop talking so much or you’ll lose your voice.’
“Thank goodness she had a sense of humor.”
Beware the bling
As I’ve been telling Lady Katherine for years, you can have too much jewelry.
For instance, Kay Hayward, who lives on False River, went to a Wal-Mart, bought “some pretty pink rhinestones” and decorated her cell phone.
“It looked good,” she says.
The next morning she put the phone in her pocket and went outside to throw leftover bread to the birds and give Slim, the neighbors’ dog, a piece of sausage.
When she got back inside her husband Ken called and asked what she wanted.
When she said she hadn’t called, he said the call on his phone had her number on it.
