Pat Shingleton for November 5, 2009
The Hurricane Hunters of Keesler Air Force Base completed their investigation Wednesday of Tropical Depression 11. We received their data in the Channel 2 Weather Center, when it was declared a tropical storm, and noticed two of the model runs put Ida in the Gulf on Monday. There has never been a landfalling storm or hurricane in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama in November. In November 1985, Kate clipped Destin and fizzled and from Nov. 5 through Nov. 9, Paloma skipped through Cuba as a Category 4. During the Katrina year of 2005, every name on the hurricane list and six from the Greek alphabet were designated into January 2006. The latest GFS model has Ida near Panama City next week.
Fastcast: Perfect.
Sunny, with a high near 77. Northeasterly winds between 5 mph and 10 mph. Tonight: Clear, with a low about 47. Northeasterly winds about 5 mph becoming calm.
