Rainfall for October made it the second wettest on record, a few inches short of the all-timer set in 1984. California could use some of our rainfall. The state is in its third year of drought, complicated by an antiquated and overtaxed water-supply system. KNTV-TV in San Francisco reports one resident decided the best way to deal with the problem was rainfall collection. Jerry Block secured four 5,000-gallon tanks, designed not only to collect his own water but filter out gutter debris. Block lives in Monte Sereno and once the 20,000-gallon rain harvesting system was installed, he eliminated water needs for his garden and pool. The water supply also provides an emergency water source for wildfires and earthquakes.

Fastcast: Perfect.

Sunny, with a high of 75. Northeasterly winds between 5 mph and 10 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low of 52. Northeasterly winds around 5 mph becoming calm.
