Pat Shingleton for Nov. 2
Three years ago, National Geographic News reported glaciers continue to melt. As noted in a previous Weather News, Greenland entrepreneurs have capitalized on the melting. Local beerologists, such as Patrick Mockler, of Mockler-Beverage Budweiser; Ivar Quigley, of Smithwicks; and Junior Finnegan, of Guiness, say the quality of beer depends on the quality of the water. The Greenland Brewhouse is the world’s first Inuit microbrewery, 390 miles south of the Arctic Circle. It melts ice sheets to brew a beer described as “smooth, soft, but not bitter.” The water, stored 2,000 years in ice, is the secret. Patrick admits the Intuit brewers have good water, but wishes them good luck getting hops delivered to the Arctic Circle. Fastcast: Perfect.
