The autumnal equinox began Sept. 27. As noted in a previous Weather News, the official full moon that hits nearest to that date is referred to as the Harvest Moon. Moonrise tonight will be at 6:48, setting at 8:22 a.m. Monday; unfortunately clouds will allow us only limited moonlight. Native Americans referred to August’s full moon as the Full Sturgeon Moon, with tonight’s called the Full Harvest Moon and the Full Hunter’s Moon. The Harvest Moon rises just 25 minutes later each night, providing more moonshine during the early evening. If you see an orange glow, it’s due to atmospheric dust. The sun’s rays reflecting off the moon offered busy farmers more light at harvest time to gather ripened crops. Fastcast: Showers.
