Pat Shingleton for Feb. 14, 2009
You’re valentine card today comes from an interesting legend previously noted in another anniversary article. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with the jailor’s daughter who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, he wrote her a letter, which he signed; “From your Valentine.” I’ve located a few Valentine’s Day cities, and one that the editor won’t permit me to print outside Harrisburg, Pa. There’s lots of warmth today in Valentine, Neb. Loveland, Colo., Ohio, and Okla., look lovely; with rose deliveries in Belle Rose and St. Rose, La. Valentine’s Day 1895 and the all-time single snow event for our state was recorded in Rayne with 2 feet of snow reported.
Fastcast: Showery.
Mostly cloudy with chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid-70s. Westerly winds around 5 mph shifting to the north in the afternoon. Chance of rain 50 percent. Tonight, cloudy, chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the lower 50s. Easterly winds up to 5 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.
