Pat Shingleton for May 3, 2008
Years ago, on Wiley Hill in Ellwood City, Pa., Cindy Bridge would encourage her cat to come home. Much to the irritation of my brother Kevin, Cindy would holler with her speech impediment, “Miiiiidnight, time for din-oar.” At which the cat would leap through the air, banging the aluminum panel on the storm door, courtesy of Kevin. I recently asked Kevin the whereabouts of Midnight whereby he shared an interesting story. Our home was built in 1904 and was considered technologically advanced because it had lightning rods. Kevin mentioned that during a severe thunderstorm in 1968, Midnight was curled up at the base of the lightning rod and never again made it home for dinner.
Fastcast: Clearing, less humid.
