Pat Shingleton for April 29, 2008
As we nudge a possible record low, it was another record in Phoenix. The relative humidity is a marker for the amount of water-vapor content in the air.
The dew point is the “real deal” and is the temperature at which the air is saturated. The dew point in Baton Rouge at 40 degrees is super dry for us, while 70 degrees is oppressive. Last Sunday, the relative humidity at 1 p.m. in Phoenix was 2 percent and stayed there for two hours. The reading tied the lowest relative humidity recorded in Phoenix going back to May 8, 1904.
The air temperature on Sunday was 91, the dew point was minus-9 degrees, a temperature/dew point spread of 100 degrees.
Fastcast: Clear, cool, dry.
