Pat Shingleton for April 18, 2008
Dr. Loren Scott was a regular on our 5 p.m. broadcasts years ago, providing advice on the economy and trends that could affect the viewer. I saw in the March issue of the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society he was quoted concerning the largest claim ever filed with the federal government. Scott noted, “That’s the mother of all high numbers.” He referred to a report of an unidentified claim of emotional and physical devastation a Hurricane Katrina victim filed for $3,014,170, 389,176,410, or for conversational purposes, $3 quadrillion. The 489,000 claims against the Corps of Engineers included 247 for a billion bucks and claims against New Orleans hit $81 billion. All were dismissed.
