David J. Mitchell covers Ascension Parish government for The Advocate. He previously worked for the Daily Star in Hammond for two years before joining The Advocate in August.

Mitchell is a graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans and of LSU in Baton Rouge. He has also previously worked for newspapers in Arizona and Covington. Mitchell is married with one child.
