Clinton gala planned Saturday

The East Feliciana Community Center group is hosting a “Bon Temps True Blood” costume gala from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at Wildflower Inn in Clinton to raise money to renovate the old Clinton High School for use as a community center.

Advance tickets are available at Feliciana Bank, Topper’s and McKnight’s in Clinton and McDonald’s Drugstore in Jackson. Prices are $35 per person or $50 for a couple in advance. Food, door prizes,  a silent auction and a cash bar will be featured, along with music from the 1950s to the present day.

Photographs taken during the filming of HBO’s “True Blood” series will be displayed.

Juror sets meeting

West Feliciana Police Jury President Billy Shoemake will hold a meeting to discuss the Nov. 14 tax election with his District 4 constituents at 6 p.m.  Tuesday at the Tunica Fire Station on La. 66.

Cemetery group meets

The Young Family Cemetery Association will hold its annual family meeting at 2 p.m. Oct. 25 at Plains Presbyterian Church.

Officials honored

The Baker School Board recently recognized Mayor Harold Rideau, Police Chief Mike Knaps  and Fire Chief Danny Edwards for their help in dealing with an emergency Sept. 14 when a live electrical transformer fell onto the campus at Bakerfield Elementary School.

Hall of Fame inductees

The Zachary High School Athletic Hall of Fame inducted three former athletes during ceremonies last week.

Alvin Lee Green Sr., a 1968 graduate of Northwestern High School, was posthumously inducted. He played football and basketball and won an athletic scholarship to Bishop College in Dallas, Texas.

Also inducted were Nicole Daniel Montgomery, a 1990 graduate and all-state softball player, and Julie Hughes Johnson, a 1999 graduate who holds eight school records in swimming.
