Audubon State Historic Site, on La. 965 in West Feliciana Parish, celebrates on Saturday the 230th anniversary of the Battle of Baton Rouge, an often overlooked battle of the American Revolutionary War in the West Florida colony.
Spanish Gen. Bernardo Galvez, along with American troops, captured the British military post and garrison at Baton Rouge on Sept. 21, 1779, ending British control of the Mississippi Valley.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, visitors can see demonstrations of early 1800s crafts. The program also includes flintlock musket demonstrations, camp life talks, and talks on the clothing of the day. Southeast Regional Archaeologist Rob Mann will speak on historic Galveztown, and Raymond Berthelot, chief of interpretive services for the Office of State Parks, will discuss Gen. Galvez.
The event begins a series of Audubon programs to commemorate the movement of West Feliciana Parish from Spanish territory to the West Florida Republic.

The Redwood Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday in the recreation hall of Redwood Baptist Church, La. 412 east of Slaughter. Area residents with relatives buried in the cemetery are invited to attend.
