A seven-member, blue-ribbon panel is working on possible changes to the city of Zachary’s home-rule charter, which, for lack of a better term, is the city’s “constitution.”
The move to update the document stems from an earlier amendment that ushered in single-member City Council districts but created some conflicts with other charter sections.
Both the charter commission and Mayor Henry Martinez have asked for public comment on possible changes. If you have any suggestions on how Zachary should be governed, put them in writing and either deliver them to City Hall, 4700 Main St., or mail them to P.O. Box 310, Zachary, LA 70791.
Voters will have the final say on the revised charter in a special election.
Vibes In The Ville
The alt-pop Austin group, “Diving Captain,” headlines the free Vibes in the Ville concert at 6 p.m. Saturday in St. Francisville. The town’s “Z-Squared” (Zak Lanius and Zak Douglas) will open for the visiting musicians. After 8 p.m., the father of Diving Captain’s drummer will perform at the nearby Birdman Coffee and Books.
Norwood terms begin
Becky Bellue will be sworn in as mayor and Jimmy Reynolds and Jimmy McCaa as aldermen for the village of Norwood at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Town Hall. The public is invited to attend.
A special election will be scheduled to fill the third seat on the board, following Andy Jelks’ decision not to take office.
Theater opens auditions
The St. Francisville Transitory Theatre will hold open auditions at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday for “What Alice Saw There,” an original play based on Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” Show up at Bayou Sara Station next to Que Pasa restaurant. For information, call (225) 245-4952 or visit http://www.sftheatre.net.
