Thursday marked a victory for Louisiana recreational fishermen, a hollow victory.
For the first time in a month, the weekend comes without rain — but with lots of east and southeast wind.
The final spots in February’s Bassmaster Classic will be determined this week in the Atchafalaya Spillway.
Plan to spend another weekend in the interior waters. That’s because another cold front — the one that’s bringing so much rain across south Louisiana today — is due to blow in here sometime Saturday, almost a replay of the last two weekends.
Another dose of strong, shifting winds on another cold front will limit access to productive freshwater and inshore coastal areas. And you can cross offshore fishing off your list of options.
We’ve asked for it and it looks like we’re going to get the most dramatic weather change since fall fell on us nearly a month ago — and there’s going to be an equally dramatic shift in freshwater and saltwater action.
It’s time to follow up on recent columns, notably on Marine Aquaculture and Catch Share and propositions coming from the U.S. Department of Commerce — and about the burned-down Grand Isle fishing pier.
