CHERAMIE SONNIER

Cheramie Sonnier, assistant food editor for The Advocate, writes and edits food-related stories, including a weekly cookbook review column, Book Report, and two occasional series, Made in Louisiana and From Farm to Table.

Prior to joining The Advocate’s food staff in October 1991, Sonnier worked 18 years for the former State-Times covering police, courts and city-parish government and writing general assignment stories. Before that, she worked in public relations for the Houston Public Library and for newspapers in Lafayette and Plaquemine. She is a regional co-director for the national Association of Food Journalists and a member of Women in Media and Louisiana Press Women.

Sonnier holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising design from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and a master’s degree in journalism from LSU.


Recipes for anything pecan from Basic Roasted Pecans to a Pecan Martini fill the pages of the updated version of a cookbook first printed in 1984 for the Cane River Pecan Co. store in Natchitoches.
