Options available for Halloween

Besides the usual trick-or-treating candy fest, parents and children can choose from multiple activities around Livingston Parish this week for celebrating All Hallows’ Eve.


The Watson branch of the Livingston Parish library will offer Halloween story time at 10 a.m. Tuesday.


Then, the Albany-Springfield branch will have a vampire murder mystery, “Murder at Twight,” 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Awards will be given for the best costume, best acting and to the clever vampire who solves the case. Call (225) 567-1441 to reserve a character.


For a true fright, the Livingston Parish Fire Protection District No. 10 is holding its “Haunted Trail of Screams” starting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.


The haunted trail costs $15 and is located on U.S. 190 in Livingston, just past the Livingston Parish School Board office. Call (225) 205-6823.


Many churches are offering alternatives to Halloween.


The First Baptist Church of Denham Springs, located behind the Denham Springs Post Office, will hold a  “Trunk or Treat” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.


Children can dress in non-scary costumes. Parents can decorate their trunk/tailgate and bring candy to distribute.


An optional messy activity for children in grades one through five, called “organized mass chaos,” also will be offered. Children should bring a change of clothes. Prizes for best costume and decorated trunk will be given. Call (225) 664-4102.


Colyell Baptist Church, 19524 La. 42, Livingston, will hold a Hallelujah Night at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The event includes games, candy and food for children of all ages. Admission is free. Call (225) 698-6243.


Walker Baptist Church, 10696 Florida Blvd., in Walker will have a “Truck or Treat” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Candy, hot dogs and drinks will be provided. Call (225) 665-8368.


Golf for a cause
The Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce will hold its golf tournament on Nov. 2 at Greystone Country Club, 9214 Greystone Drive, Denham Springs. Originally scheduled on Oct. 5, the event was rained out.


Pizza is served at 11:30 a.m., registration begins at noon and the tourney starts at 1 p.m. Entry fees are $135 per player and $540 per team. Call (225) 665-8155 or e-mail jack@lpconline.org.
