The Arts Council of Livingston Parish is seeking entries from area artists age 18 or older for an exhibit that will open during the grand opening of the Arts Council’s and Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce’s renovated offices on Nov. 17.

The grand opening event will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the offices shared by the Chamber and Arts Council, 133 Hummell St., Denham Springs. The exhibit will run through Dec. 31.

There is no entry fee, but the Arts Council will collect a 15 percent commission on work sold.

Interested artists should bring their work to the Arts Council office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Entry deadline is Nov. 2.

Mediums accepted include pottery, sculpture, fiber arts, handmade jewelry, stained glass, photography, and works in oil, acrylic and watercolor. Artwork must be original creations and of a non-controversial subject matter suitable for family viewing.

For more information, call (225) 664-1168.

Shoes sought for orphans

Christ Community Church in Denham Springs will be collecting donations of new children’s shoes every Saturday this month to be given to orphans in 68 countries, including the United States.

Shoes of all sizes are needed, but canvas or leather athletic shoes are the greatest need. Only new shoes and socks can be accepted because of customs regulations.

Donors also can place a family picture and note to the receiving child in the shoes.

The shoes will be given to the charitable ministry, Shoes for Orphan Souls for distribution.

Shoes can be dropped off on from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays this month at Christ Community Church, 8139 Florida Blvd., Denham Springs. For more information, go to www.shoesfororphansouls.org.
