Since opening its doors in 2008, the Pecan Grove Primary School administration has dreamed of new playground equipment. That dream is coming true, thanks in part, to a donation from Glenn Dorsey’s Dream Bigger Foundation. Dorsey, a  former East Ascension High School and LSU football standout, plays for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Dorsey and his mother, Sandra, joined school staffers and some School Board members on a tour of the school Saturday afternoon.

Dorsey started his foundation in Kansas City to help children. The Pecan Grove project is his first in his hometown.

Pam Hughes, lead teacher at the school, said the school contacted Dorsey about the donation earlier this year.

“His mother told us that the call for the playground was ‘meant to be,’ ” Hughes said.

“When we were finished talking about the playground plans, Glenn said, ‘Can I come play?’” Hughes said.

The school has raised $25,000 for the playground, and Dorsey’s donation “makes this thing finally happen,” Hughes said.
