Earthquakes aren’t confined to San Francisco or Mexico City. On Tuesday, a magnitude 3.8 quake was recorded near Centreville, Ala., about 40 miles southwest of Birmingham. Louisiana has experienced episodes of earthquakes. On Oct. 19, 1930, one rattled Napoleon- ville with effects reported in Des Allemands, Donaldsonville, Franklin, Morgan City and White Castle. Residents reported overturned objects and trees shaking. Other area quakes include a magnitude 3.8 reading near Greenville, Miss., on June 4, 1967. On Nov. 19, 1958, one rattled windows in Baton Rouge. Mark Walton e-mailed a note that the Baton Rouge fault is a growth fault, not resulting in measurable earthquakes.
