Our folks at the Capitol report on an odd bill sponsored by state Rep. Jerry Gisclair of Larose.

It would allow hairdressers to obtain a license to give away alcoholic drinks to customers.

Now, if my tonsorial artist wishes to offer me a free martini while he’s trimming my locks, I feel it would be rude to refuse it.

And although I confess to getting my legal advice from the lawyers at the northwest corner of the Pastime bar, I fail to see why a license is needed if the booze is given away.

I am concerned, however, about the proximity of adult beverages to people who are wielding sharp instruments around my skull.

Let’s say it’s a hot afternoon, and you’ve been on your feet all day cutting hair, and there’s a cooler full of chilled Buds at arm’s length…

Then I come in for a haircut right after you’ve popped a few tops…

Call me picky, but I prefer having a pair of ears.

Fish story

John Allphin waxes nostalgic:

“Restaurants today serve excellent fish direct from catfish farms.

“There was a time when restaurants served, and proudly advertised, ‘Fresh Amite River Catfish’ as the best.”

Which reminds me

Back in the ‘60s, when I was doing PR for Farm Bureau at the Airline Highway headquarters, our Friday lunch destination was a nearby restaurant that featured delicious fried catfish that day.

Due to its relative closeness to the Amite River, we always assumed the catfish came from there.

Once we asked the owner where he got his catfish.

He replied, “My cousin in Lebanon ships it to me.”

Last resort

Marsha R. says, “I was a technologist at a hospital where a Filipino Dr. Resurrection was on staff. Whenever he was paged, people assumed something dire had happened to someone.”

Tiger Nation

Jerry Roberts says he and his wife had a great time at the International Heritage Festival:
