A Prairieville man was seriously injured Monday morning in a crash on Airline Highway near Siegen Lane, a State Police spokesman said in a news release.
Robert R. Prewitt, 54, was riding on a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at 10 a.m. on Airline Highway when the vehicles ahead of him suddenly stopped, Trooper Russell Graham said in the release.
Prewitt tried to stop, but lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown off when it ran into the median, Graham said.
Paramedics took Prewitt to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where he was in critical condition, Graham said.
Although alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash, troopers have submitted a sample of Prewitt’s blood to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
A Baton Rouge man was killed early Sunday on Fuqua Street when he lost control of the truck he was driving and crashed into two utility poles, police said in a news release.
The crash occurred at 1 a.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Fuqua near North 19th Street, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said in the release.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a heavily damaged 1990 black Chevrolet truck, McKneely said.
Freddie L. Henderson, 59, 852 N. 29th St., had been ejected from the truck and was lying on a nearby sidewalk, McKneely said.
Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene, McKneely said.
Detectives believe the crash happened when Henderson lost control of his truck while exiting Interstate 110 at Fuqua, McKneely said.
Speed and alcohol could be factors in the crash, he added.
DENNIS MILLS – Alcohol is suspected in a head-on collision that killed both drivers and injured two passengers in southwestern St. Helena Parish, Louisiana State Police reported.
A westbound 2005 Ford pickup crossed the center line of La. 16 about two miles west of La. 63 and hit an eastbound 2008 Jeep shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday, troopers said in a statement.
Jennifer Adams, 21, of Zachary, the driver of the Ford, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
Steve Tregre, 32, of Baton Rouge, the driver of the Jeep, was taken to Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge with severe injuries. He later was pronounced dead, troopers said.
James Bolten, 27, of Livingston, and Aaron Grimmer, 27, of Walker, both passengers in the Ford, were taken to Ochsner with moderate injuries, troopers said.
No one in the pickup was wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.
Troopers said they suspect alcohol use by Adams and Tregre, who was wearing his seatbelt. Blood was taken from both of them, troopers said.
CLINTON — A Clinton man died and an East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s deputy was injured in a three vehicle crash on La. 67, a State Police official said.
The wreck occurred 10 p.m. Friday about 6 miles south of Clinton near the Olive Branch community, Trooper Russell Graham II said.
Marques L. Blakes, 57, Clinton, slammed on the brakes of his 1994 Ford pickup when he saw a 2005 Dodge pickup that had stopped to turn left into a private drive, Graham said.
Blakes’ truck skidded and veered into oncoming traffic, hitting the front of an East Feliciana Sheriff’s Office patrol unit driven by Deputy Richard J. Styles, 37, of Baker, Graham said. The Ford stopped after striking the rear bumper and left side of the Dodge pickup truck.
Paramedics took Blakes to Lane Memorial Hospital where he died, Graham said. Styles suffered moderate injuries and also was taken to Lane Memorial. Neither Blake nor Styles was wearing seat belts, Graham said.
The driver of the Dodge, Clifford F. Starks Sr., 64, and his passenger, son Clifford F. Starks Jr., 44, both of Slaughter, were not injured, Graham said. They were wearing their seat belts.
PINE — An Angie man walking along La. 436 near Pine in Washington Parish was struck and fatally injured Friday, Louisiana State Police said in a news release.
James E. Fritz Jr., 20, was struck about 10:30 p.m. by a GMC pickup truck driven by Andrea Pounds, 38, of Angie, Trooper Louis Calato said.
Fritz was thrown 50 feet and landed in a ditch, Calato said. Paramedics transported Fritz to LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa, where he died. Pounds and the only passenger in the GMC, Joseph Pounds, 40, of Angie, were not injured, Calato said. Both were wearing seat belts.
Pounds submitted to a blood-alcohol test, which indicated she had not been drinking at the time of the incident, Calato said. Test results are pending for Fritz.
A 49-year-old Baton Rouge woman was killed Wednesday when she was hit by a truck while trying to cross Florida Boulevard, said Capt. Carl Kelley, a police spokesman.
Officers were called to the 4100 block of Florida Boulevard at 10:50 p.m. to find Angela Broom Amorosa, 244 W. Chimes St., in critical condition, Kelley said.
Amorosa was taken to Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City where she later died.
The man driving the truck, Benjamin Ellis, 20, 15 Pelican Drive, Angola, was released after being questioned, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman.
A 36-year-old Baton Rouge woman was killed Monday when she was hit by a car while walking along Burbank Avenue near Gardere Lane.
Tammy D. Walters, who is suspected to have been impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of her death, was hit by a 2004 Mazda Tribute about 1:15 a.m., said Trooper Russell Graham, a State Police spokesman.
The man driving the Mazda — Tyrone W. Scott, 33, of Baton Rouge — submitted to a blood alcohol test, the results of which showed he was not impaired, Graham said. Scott was not arrested.
